My Morning

Today I got to sleep in because that stupid bird didn't show up until 10. Which is good, because it's been driving me crazy by showing up at 5:30 every morning. I figure out when we're leaving for the beach this afternoon, it's gotten cooler the last couple of days, which means I'm willing to spend time outdoors again. Only supposed to go up to 39 today. I'm gonna freeze when I come back to Canada.

Then I check my email, and what is waiting for me? An email informing me that my flight to Hong Kong has been cancelled. Which makes me want to punch AirAsia in the face. For those of you unaware I was going to spend 3 days in Hong Kong before flying home. And of course trying to get a hold of someone to help you get a new flight/get a refund is impossible.

2 Weeks!

Get ready Canada, I'm coming home!

Almost There

Today I finished teaching my last class of the year.  Its crazy to think that 10 months have gone by.  I had kinda expected to feel changed, to feel like I've grown as a person.  I'm still the same girl, just some new stories.  Who know still got another week or so of school. Tomorrow exams start, then its just marking, report cards and cleaning the classroom.  Wish me luck.

A Visitor

This bird appeared on Saturday and sent most of the day hanging off my window and in the avocado tree in my backyard. It was completely unfazed by my presence, and just went from window to window showing off.  And although its very beautiful to look at, its song is another matter entirely.  So when it came back this Sunday morning, just before 6 am, I was less than thrilled to be woken up by its squawking and repeatedly tapping on the glass I was not impressed.  And regardless of how many time I banged on the glass to try and make it leave it would not. So when I tried to move to the living room couch it followed and drove me crazy from there. I guess it was dead set on having me be an early riser this morning.

It's Here

Tonight the rains started. The pitter-patter on my roof sounds beautiful, the heat has finally broke from disgusting to bearable. Its rainy season. And eventually that beautiful sound of the rain will drive me crazy. But for right now it's the most perfect sound in the world.

Happy Mother's Day

I would like to take this day to recognize not only my mother, but all the strong, amazing women who have helped to shape me into the person I am today. You cared for me, yelled at me when I was wrong, you taught me how to sew and cook, the name of different plants, how to canoe, paint, properly dig a trench, you taught me to be strong, and never take crap from anyone. You let me steal peanut butter from the jar when no one was looking and taught me my first dance moves. To respect others, and most of all myself. These women have been my inspiration and source of strength. And it is because of all of you that I am able to go off on my adventures, because I know regardless of how far I travel your lessons and support will always follow me.

I come form a line of strong women, who have taught me to be equally as strong and resilient.

Most of all my mother, who taught me to take care of myself, others, and any situation that is thrown at me.

Love You!

Summer.

So it's currently summer here. And as many of my friends and family members pray for the warmth to come to them and for all the snow and ice to finally leave. I'm here dying of heat stroke. (not actually dying, but I think this is what it  would feel like). Its hot, like freezies instantly melt hot, and you wish you never had to wear clothes and could just lie on a tile floor with an air conditioner pointed at you and nothing ever touch you hot. You know in music videos, like JLo, everyone's covered in this thin layer of sweat and they look good. Its like that, except instead of a thin layer of sweat, it looks more like everyone just got out of the shower.

For example right now, I'm sitting in my classroom on my prep (I swear I'm marking papers) sweating. Its hot enough to think: these air conditioners must not be working. So I go fiddle with the controller and everything is on the right setting. So I continually lower the setting until its at a cool 13 degrees Celsius, and still its a sweat box. So then I stick my head outside the door. No its working, its just 48 degrees outside today and there's no way your going to be cool, minus camping out in a giant walk in freezer.

I look forward to Canadian summer where its a reasonable temperature of 27.
